As the Hoot N’ Holler comes to a close at the end of 2010, WonderWorks is proud to have been the home of the Hoot N’ Holler Dinner Show for the past five years, and are thrilled with the success it has seen both within our local community as well as our visiting guests.

As many of you know WonderWorks has a sister company the National Museum of Crime & Punishment located in Washington DC.  They have just rolled out a Fun & Furry  contest dedicated to mans best friend.

Contest begins September 1st
Inspired by the world’s most famous canine, McGruff the Crime Dog, The National Museum of Crime & Punishment would like to recognize those special dogs out there that protect and serve in their everyday life. Whether it be protecting the sofa from any fallen crumbs, serving the neighborhood by keeping the grass fertilized, or guarding doggie treats with extreme intensity we want to showcase how your special pooch serves you and your community.

Each month we will select our favorite Canine Cop of the Month, and each monthly winner will qualify for the national vote to crown the Canine Cop of the Year. Submissions for each month must be received by the 25th at 5:00PM EST. All submissions received after that date will be considered for the following month. Winners will be announced on the 29th of each month.

Creativity and props are encouraged, but please make sure all submissions are family-friendly. Also, we will not tolerate any animal to be treated inhumanely to elicit a unique picture, so please do not put your dog in any situation that is dangerous or would appear to be dangerous for your pet.

Who is eligible? Any dog whose owners are legal residents of the United States, please see contest rules on entry form for more details. We’re not necessarily looking for actual police or security dogs; we’re looking for any animal that protects and serves in their own way. We believe that all dogs help protect and serve our homes and communities, so send us a photo showing us how your beloved pooch serves his/her role!

A featured spot on National Museum of Crime & Punishment website, Facebook page, and monthly e-newsletter. A press release sent to the local newspapers and TV stations in the monthly winner’s hometown.

An annual family pass to the museum, including your potty trained canine, which grants up to four family members unlimited admission to the museum for one full year.

Inclusion of their winning photograph in the CANINE COP 2012 calendar, sold through the Humane Society of the United States.

A featured spot during Canine Cop Day at the National Museum of Crime & Punishment, which takes place the second Saturday of each month. On Canine Copy Day, the museum will glorify that month’s selected winner; the dog’s winning photo will be posted at the museum, and guests that state the winning dog’s name at the museum’s front desk will receive 1/2 price admission! Additionally, each Canine Cop Day will feature a guest speaker addressing various topics related to crimes against animals and animals in law enforcement.

WonderWorks Announces 2010 Wonder-Kid Scholarship Recipient

GATLINBURG PITTMAN HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR AWARDED WONDERWORKS WONDER-KID SCHOLARSHIP

PIGEON FORGE, Tenn.–WonderWorks announces the 2010 recipient of the WonderWorks Wonder-Kid Scholarship.

The $2,500 Jameson McMichael Memorial Wonder-Kid Scholarship is being awarded to a 2010 graduating senior selected from qualified applicants from Sevier County High School, Pigeon Forge High School, Gatlinburg-Pittman High School, The Kings Academy, Seymour Community Christian School, St. Andrew’s School, Covenant Christian Academy, New Center Christian Academy and Seymour High School. Scholarship criteria  includes a 2.75 or higher GPA and Sevier County residency. In addition, the scholarship recognizes a student who has overcome academic or personal adversity.

WonderWorks is proud to announce the 2010 recipient of the Wonder-Kid Scholarship is Miss Sherilyne Ownby of  Gatlinburg Pittman High School.  Sherilyne is the third senior in Sevier County  to receive this award.  Her plans are to attend Walter State Community College where she will complete core classes, then move on from there to a University where she can follow her dreams of ultimately becoming an Orthopedic Surgeon.  WonderWorks is very proud of Sherilyne and is excited to be  a partner in her dreams and aspirations.

WonderWorks believes and promotes teamwork in all aspects of its operations.  Presenting Sheilyne with her award are Terry Evanswood, Master Magician from Wonders of Magic, Dr. Andrea Wilson Educational Sales Manager and Scrapps Emcee  Comedian from the Hoot N’ Holler Dinner Show.  “We are all so happy to be part of helping Sevier County youth achieve their dreams. We wish Sherilyne all the best in her future endeavors.” 

WonderWorks  is Tennessee’s only upside-down attraction. The 55,000 sq. ft. WonderWorks facility, which also is home to the 300-seatImagination Theater, is an amusement park for the mind featuring more than 120 interactive exhibits and attractions. Guests can experience a simulated 5.3 earthquake, withstand 55 mph winds in the Hurricane Hole, while tests of physical strength and endurance include an indoor rock climbing wall and a bed of 3,500 nails. Friday morning at 5:04am… an Earthquake rocked the nation’s capital and its surrounding area.  Scoring M3.6  according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Have no fear our DC-based sister property, National Museum of Crime & Punishment is unharmed and now can claim they have had an Earthquake ride like its sister company WonderWorks.

Featuring Over 100 Interactive Exhibits

Panama City Beach, FL (June 21, 2010)— Panama City Beach’s largest indoor attraction, WonderWorks™ will be opening its doors on Tuesday, June 22 at 9:00a.m. The four-story, 39,000-square-foot, family entertainment complex will be filled with more than 100 interactive hands-on exhibits, a ropes course, Lazer Tag, video games, a gift shop and more.   General admission prices are $22.99 for adults and $18.99 for seniors and kids aged 4 – 12, tax not included. Hurricane Simulator – Have you ever wondered what it would feel like to be in a hurricane?  Step into WonderWorks™ Hurricane Simulator and you will be blown away by a 74mph hurricane, as measured on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Scale.

Xtreme 360˚ Bike – Have you heard of a bicycle built for two?  It’s been around for 100 years or more.  WonderWorks™ has literally put a new spin on tandem cycling with its novel 360° Bike.   The faster you peddle the more you revolve upside-down.  It’s almost like a two-person roller coaster with a spinning over-the-top motion.

Ropes Challenge Course – Located on the fourth floor, guests will be challenged by the three-story rope ladders and parallel rope bridges, where dexterity, balance and focus must come together in order to successfully complete this human spider web.  Safety is always the first consideration, and the lanyard harness system keeps both large and small competitors just inches from the apparatus if a misstep is taken. 

Bed of Nails – How about lying on a bed of nails?  3,497 of them to be exact!  Guest’s will have the opportunity to lie on a bed of nails where the nails will evenly distribute on a rigid bed rising – ever so slowly, until the guest is resting on points of thousands of nails. 

Mindball Mental Challenge – Mindball pits two participants in a unique mental contest. Participants square off at opposite ends of a table. Each participant is seated and wears a headband that measures the brain’s activity. The more calm the brainwave – the better. The round Mindball is placed in the center of the table – equal distance from each participant.  Mindball relies on calmness to measure a participant’s success. The goal is to be more relaxed than your opponent, in order to move a physical ball away from you and into your opponent’s goal…ultimately winning by relaxing.

Far Out Illusion Gallery – When you enter WonderWorks™ Far Out Gallery you’ve taken a step into a world of unique perception and perspective. You will marvel at the dimensional artwork where the top may appear to be the bottom and vice-versa. The Far Out Illusion Gallery offers a palette where the inexplicable will come to life and the unusual will become the norm.
